ABOUT
JERRY ROBBINS AKA MUNGO JERRY
I started playing guitar when The Beatles performed on the Ed Sullivan show in the early 60’s. Their music changed my life, and I am very proud of my Beatle repertoire. I played solo until I started my first band “8-TRACK” in the mid 90’s. We played many venues all over New Mexico, but most often in Albuquerque. We were the opening act for a 70’s band “The Turtles” who played a July 4th event for the city of Rio Rancho, and twice was the featured band on the main stage at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta.
Our band dissolved after a great five year run and with it the equity in the name recognition. I resolved not to have to lose it again to another band break up so I decided to coin my nickname “Mungo Jerry” (song “In the summertime”) as my new band name. When I play solo it’s “Mungo Jerry”, and if I include other musicians, it’s “The Mungo’s”.
I continue to play a lot of Beatles, Eagles, Jackson Brown, Buffett, Neal Young, and many of the groups I grew up listening to. I have expanded it dramatically to include new artists from Garth Brooks to Blue Rodeo I play guitar, ukulele and harmonica, I have backing tracks to over 100 songs to provide a rich, full band sound.
I have invested in custom guitars with the Pimentel & Sons guitar makers. I perform with a custom steel string acoustic, a nylon string jazz fusion acoustic guitar, and a custom ukulele. All instruments have Fishman electronics and are played through my acoustic amplifier, and Yamaha P.A system. I also use a harmonizer when singing.
Some of my previous venues include: The Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta 1995, 1996, 2021, 2022, 2023, The County Line 2018-2023, El Pinto, Tanoan Country Club, The Canyon Club, Rock n’ Brew, Piatanzi, O’Neils, Lescombes Winery, Marble Brewery, Sandia Casino, Angel Fire Resort, Wines of the San Juan (Blanco, NM). One of my personal highlights was being one of a select group to perform at the Pimentel 65th anniversary event at the National Hispanic Cultural Center on February 18, 2017. This performance is available on my website, or you can Google “Mungo Jerry” under Youtube to view this prestigious event.
